iSmudge.com Artist of the Month Mary Lockwood

Using standard lampworking equipment (torch, fuel, oxygen, hand tools and kiln), I melt Italian and German made glass into tiny works of art. Flowers are my strongest point, but I enjoy making all styles and types of beads and small glass objects.

I have been making and designing jewelry in my northeast Ohio studio for over 7 years. A time came when my jewelry ideas were being limited by the beads I could purchase, so I set out to make my own. I discovered lampworking and was instantly hooked. The creation of something beautiful, from a raw cane of glass that trips all my triggers. I hope you enjoy my work.

1300 OCTOBER GALLERY LISTING INFORMATION

This exhibition focuses on two outstanding artists and designers: Thomas M. Lowery of Washington D.C. and Tim Callaghan, a Cleveland native.

Thomas M. Lowery was born on a ship traveling from Scandinavia to the U.S. His work reflects these rocky beginnings. "They're an attempt to illustrate high school romantic feelings," he says of his various drawings, projections and paintings that feature fireflies talking about the status of their relationships, teenage kids wearing skeleton masks, and talking drum kits, among other things.

Its some edgy stuff, and I like it. The only problem is that the pictures really don't do this work justice! His stuff is very cool in person. If you are a gallery owner looking for something different and cool, please give this guy an call.

Call to Artists - Year of the dog...

What is the Year of the Dog Project?
St. Clair Superior Development Corporation (SCSDC) welcomes the 2006 Year of the Dog celebration to the St. Clair Superior neighborhood! This is a public art exhibition that places life-size fiberglass dogs, designed and created by local artists, throughout the St. Clair Superior landscape for the public to view and interact with. The dog sculpture that will be used is pictured at the right. To make each dog sculpture a unique work of art, each artist is challenged and inspired by cultural influences, their personal history, and their own interpretation of the dog as an object of art. The Year of the Dog project is funded through the Cuyahoga County ACE grant and corporate sponsorships.
