have always needed to create. I cherish a snapshot of myself as a little freckle-faced redhead atop a tricycle; dirt smeared on her cheeks and hair flying in all directions. It reminds me to get messy, use my imagination, and not only color outside the lines, but draw new ones.
Its an important part of my creative process to be aware of the symbolism all around us and of the beauty in common things - inspect the pattern of cracks in the road, analyze the reflection cast by your orange juice glass, examine the anatomy of an icicle. Carl Sandburg once wrote, Poetry is the synthesis of hyacinths and biscuits. This fusion of the exquisite and the ordinary is my goal in the work I create.
I am greatly influenced by the Pre Raphealite, Art Nouveau, and Italian Renaissance movements, but I cannot forget the One whose creation surrounds us in awesome loveliness everyday and is the greatest influence on my work. I appreciate most His details - the intricate spiral of a morning glory vine or the down on the breast of a finch. I think God is the only artist who is pleased by those who imitate His work, and I pray that each of my creations is truly an homage to my Master.
